OFF! at Third Man Records in Detroit
Multi talented punk legend Keith Morris brought one of his many projects to Detroit! Off was playing at Jack Whites Third Man Records. Sadly Jack White did not seem to be in attendance. This was my first time attending a show at Third Man Records and I actually really enjoyed it! I loved walking around the store before the bands played looking at records, I even ended up getting a cool Jack White match book for my collection! One of the best parts about seeing the show there was the fact that I got to get a peak at the area where they press all the records! But that was not the reason I was there I was there for the man the myth and the legend …Keith Morris! Keith Morris is an American singer and songwriter known for his role as frontman of the hardcore punk bands Black Flag, Circle Jerks, and most importantly Off! Before I went to the show I was telling my mom about it and she told me that she remembers seeing them play when she was in her 20’s! It’s always really cool to see a band go through generations like that. Opening the show was an amazing young punk band called Die Spitz this young punk band gave hope to me that this genre of music is going to stay alive for a long time! Starting off their set with the singer on the opposite side of the stage she slowly made her way to the stage starting a mosh pit on her way up to the stage! They were probably the perfect opening band they were fun full of energy and didn’t take themselves too seriously! Off! I have seen Keith Morris play a few times in one of his other bands Circle Jerks, once at Riot Fest and once at the Crofoot in Pontiac both times have been amazing but seeing him with Off! At Third Man Records just felt special. This was a very small and intimate sold out show! Starting off the 26 song set with Slice Up The Pie it set the tone for the rest of the night! With his signature whiny and nasally singing voice Keith Morris commanded the rest of the night going through songs like Smoking Gun, Free LSD and Panic Attack. It is always so special seeing someone so legendary in the punk world play a show like this!
