Atreyu Live At The Majestic Theater In Detroit

Reigning from California, the metalcore band Atreyu brought their "Baptize" tour to Detroit, Michigan's Majestic Theatre on 11-26-21. Named after their newest album, the tour features metal bands Crown The Empire, Tetrarch, Saul, and Defying Decay. "Baptize" is their first album following the departure of long time vocalist Alex Varkatz.
Inside The Majestic, the venue was buzzing with energy as we waited for the lights to dim, signaling the start of the show.
Coming all the way from Bangkok, Thailand, Defying Decay opened the show with a bang. Infecting the crowd with their energetic stage presence, fans couldn't help themselves as they formed multiple mosh pits and walls of death. With a sound totally unique to themselves, not a single soul in the room was still as Defying Decay set a high standard for the bands to follow.
Following in Defying Decay's blazing footsteps, Saul brought vital riffs and melodic vocals to the hyped-up crowd. Formed in Sutherland, Iowa, Saul performed a great mix of their most popular songs. Notable songs included "Trial By Fire," "Looking To Fight," and "Brother." The room was receptive to their dominant energy, as fans bobbed their heads to the music.
With the third set belonging to Tetrarch, vocalist Josh Fore knew exactly how to excite the crowd for the performance to come. Leading up to their solid and emotional set, Fore exclaimed "We're not here to cross our arms and stand here with our hands in our pockets! We're here to take all the bullshit in life, and leave it out on the cold ass street!" As Tetrarch began to play, the look on the band members faces spoke a thousand words; you could tell they were having a blast rocking our socks off. In between songs, Fore spoke about the roots of the band. He mentioned how in the beginning, no one believed in them. With the support of their peers and fans, Tetrarch proved everyone wrong as they climbed the ladder of popularity. As of today, they have over 180,000 monthly listeners on Spotify, and over 5 million streams on their most popular song, "I'm Not Right."
As the lights dimmed out for the next band, the crowd went wild in anticipation for Crown The Empire's heavy hitting set. From Dallas, Texas, Crown The Empire just celebrated the 10 year anniversary of their first album "Limitless." Vocalist Andy Leo welcomed us with a "well, howdy!," before diving into their energetic song, "In Another Life." Every step of the way, devoted fans screamed along with the lyrics as Crown The Empire blazed across the stage. Amping up the fun, fans would deliver the band drinks by crowdsurfing to the stage. Between songs, Leo made a shout out his dearly departed friend, Kyle Pavone of We Came As Romans. "When I think of Detroit, I think of Kyle, and I think of those special moments with him."
As we waited for the final band to take the stage, songs such as "Don't Stop Believin'" by Journey successfully hyped up the crowd. The lights went down, and the room was practically vibrating with energy as Atreyu made their entrance.
Right out of the gate, Atreyu opened with their album title track, "Baptize." Vocalist Brandon Saller welcomed us with a friendly “Detroit, Michigan! Let’s fucking hear it!" followed by heavy riffs, harsh vocals, and melodic cleans. Streaming their set live to Twitch, Atreyu allowed viewers online to choose stage light colors. At The Majestic, they also allowed a fan to pick a song out of a bowl for them to play. The lucky fan pulled “Sabotage Me” from the bowl, a song that Saller mentioned they'd previously only played live twice. The rest of their set consisted of a satisfying mix of song such as "Exes And Oh's," "Untouchable," and "Warrior." Fans requested an encore, which Atreyu obliged by playing one of their older songs, " Lip Gloss And Black. "
Atreyu is currently still on tour, with 11 dates left to go. This is a tour you don't want to miss!
