LA's 18-Year-Old Mystery Rose Announces 10/15 Album & Releases Video

18-Year-Old Mystery Rose Announces Debut LP “Socially Distant” Out October 15

unnamed-13.jpg

"Lovebirds on the Weekend," released August 2nd is a timeless, classic rock banger from Mystery Rose's debut LP Socially Distant. At just 18, her phenomenal talent is evident on every track. Deployed in torch ballads and pop-punk numbers, her wise-beyond her-years songwriting imbues the 11 songs. Mystery Rose sets herself apart with emo pop-punk twists, complemented by Dan West’s spot-on arrangements. Mystery Rose—aka Zoe Rose –commands the kineticism of youth while realizing there are some lessons people never stop learning. “There are no new stories, but we can put modern twists on age-old problems,” says Rose. She tells Spill Magazine, “The song taps into that anger or resentment you have towards your ex. It's so satisfying to sing these lyrics, ' I don’t give a fuck about you or your girlfriend/ Last thing on my mind is you lovebirds on the weekend.' However, then the human emotion takes over. My favorite line in the song is: ' I loved you then/ I love you now/I loved you never/I don’t know which one is better.'

On her debut LP Socially Distant (out October 15, 2021), LA’s Mystery Rose establishes herself as an emerging rock/pop phenom. Deployed in torch ballads and pop-punk numbers, her wise-beyond her-years songwriting imbues the 11 songs. Though she’s obviously grown up with millennial pop stars like Miley Cyrus, Mystery Rose sets herself apart with emo pop-punk twists worthy of Mitski or Soccer Mommy, complemented by Dan West’s spot-on arrangements. Mystery Rose—aka Zoe Rose –commands the kineticism of youth while realizing there are some lessons people never stop learning. “There are no new stories, but we can put modern twists on age-old problems,” says Rose.

With these songs, she does just that, holding space for nostalgia, anger, and reckoning alike.“All of the songs have a theme of isolation, loneliness and break ups. However, there is also a feeling of acceptance,” she explains. She’s cultivated these songs under the tutelage of musician-producer Dan West (d’Animal, LoveyDove, Sidewalk Society), who also produced Socially Distant from, a, well, social distance. West had helped Rose realize not only her talent but her desire to make music early on. “I was intrigued with him immediately because he acted more like a student than an adult and always had two fistfuls of coffee,” Rose laughs. Working with West and his wife, the psychedelia-indie rock singer-songwriter Azalia Snail, Rose has been steadily writing and recording. She’s dropped five singles since 2018, and they’ve caught the ears of Indie Alliance DJ’s, including Rodney Bingenheimer, whose “Rodney on the ROQ” show launched a host of legendary artists (Blondie, Joan Jett, Nirvana).

Mystery Rose’s songs are commanding attention with good reason. On Socially Distant, Rose reaches deeper into her storytelling, releasing a powerful arsenal of timely songs whose themes are evergreen. West’s arrangements support the versatility of Rose’s singing and writing. Throughout, she stays true to her love of live instruments, not including any programmed beats on the album. Rose has a backing band as well and is eager for venues to re-open.

Rose says lead single “Stability” is “about relationships. No matter who breaks things off, it affects your stability and your confidence about moving forward in another relationship. The lyrics revisit the happy parts of a relationship alongside memories of feeling pain—and of causing it. “Chances are you can’t see / you are messing with my stability / eternally,” Rose sings. The verses, built on guitar strums and a softly emotive voice, give way to an up-tempo, drum-driven chorus.

Later, “Picture Perfect” takes listeners on a sweeping journey with dramatic twists and turns of tuneful exuberance that will leave no heartstrings un-tugged. The chorus finds Rose’s voice sounding both ethereal and rich. “It is about seeking that perfect state of balance,” Rose explains. The song shows off her vocal range and ability to pull off high-production ballads, all while eloquently capturing a moment.

While the songs on Socially Distant run the sonic gamut, they’re clearly written by the same deft hand, felt by the same bruised heart, and sung by a voice that has a lot more to say.

Socially Distant will be released October 13, 2021 and available at all major streaming sites, including bandcamp and Soundcloud. It will also be released on vinyl.

Steve Hanft (Beck, The Cure) directed music videos for the singles, and the video “Stability”--featuring a motorcycle journey through the California hills-- has already been released.

The album was produced and engineered by Dan West at Victory Way Studios in Shadow Hills, CA.

Today, Angels & Airwaves have released a new single and video, “Losing My Mind.” The video features frontman Tom DeLonge’s alter-ego Disco, brother to Boomer from blink-182’s “First Date” music video. The video sees Disco on a grand adventure through the Las Vegas strip late at night alongside TikTok dance sensation, Rampage. The official video’s release also comes with another, more edgy director’s cut video that is now live on the band’s website.

The infectious track and video are the band’s third this year as they prepare to release their sixth studio album LIFEFORMS on September 24. Additionally, this Saturday, July 31, the band will be performing at Lollapalooza (Lakeshore Stage, 7:45pm).

Pre-order/merch HERE.

“I wanted to write a song about a totally insane idea that would never happen, like, what if our own country was being torn apart by racists, a pandemic, and domestic terrorism, but all at the same time… you know, just normal made up shit that would never happen,” said Tom Delonge about “Losing My Mind.”

In 2021 the band has released the soaring “Euphoria” on May 19, and then most recently “Restless Souls” on June 15. Including 2019’s “Rebel Girl” and “Kiss & Tell,” the singles on the album collectively total over 43.5 million streams. NME called Euphoria “explosive,” while Rolling Stone said “the song shows the seductive nature of an intense love.” “Restless Souls” was dubbed “quintessential Tom DeLonge” by Rolling Stone and was paired with the announcement of the band’s forthcoming full-length release LIFEFORMS and a world tour in fall 2021/winter 2022. Tickets are available HERE.

DeLonge, a founding member of Blink-182, formed Angels & Airwaves in 2005. The band has released five full-length albums and charted numerous hits, including “The Adventure,” “The War,” “Everything’s Magic” and “Rebel Girl.” The Dream Walker, released in 2014, hit No. 1 on iTunes and No. 5 on Billboard’s Top Alternative Albums chart. A multimedia project, the album was accompanied by a graphic novel, comic books and the short film Poet Anderson, co-directed by DeLonge, which won Best Animated Short Film at the Toronto International Short Film Festival.

Angels & Airwaves are Tom DeLonge (lead vocals, guitar/synths), Ilan Rubin (drums/guitar/backing vocals/synths), David Kennedy (guitar) and Matt Rubano (bass).

In addition to his work with AVA, DeLonge created To The Stars, a multimedia entertainment company that creates original content across music, film, television and publishing. DeLonge served as executive producer of The History Channel series “Unidentified: Inside America’s UFO Investigation" and will make his feature film directorial debut with the forthcoming Monsters of California.

Jax Anderson Is Playing El Club In Detroit
190916590_356971859129986_4917044009904933458_n.jpg

Detroit’s Jax Anderson, formally known as Flint Eastwood, is someone who is always authentically herself. She has set out on a mission to write alt-pop anthems that speak to the forces that keep us from loving ourselves, conquering them in the process.

Jax has been slowly unveiling dual songs from her upcoming album, Songs For Every Condition. Recently the tracks “Bigger Picture feat. VÉRITÉ” and “Say I Do” were released from the HAPPY portion of the album. Over the past few months, she’s also released the HOPEFUL and CLOUDY portions as well.

When asked about the upcoming concept album, Jax said: “Life happens in ways that are unpredictable & beautiful & everything/nothing all at once. There are so many moments to notice & feelings to cherish. A moment that happens when you're happy, may feel different when your condition changes to sad or excited or healing or heartbroken or joyful. Life changes constantly - to me the soundtrack of life feels more like a playlist than an album. Songs For Every Condition was inspired by the different conditions of life. I didn't force myself into a certain soundscape or to stick to a certain genre, but instead allowed the music to be inspired by the different conditions I was in at the time. What came out was a wonderful variety of honest songs.”

Be on the lookout for Songs For Every Condition, which will be out this fall on Neon Gold Records.

Jax will be playing a free show with Curtis Roach at the El Club in Detroit on August 4th, 2021 at 7PM. RSVP to the event here.

“The first thing I thought when I heard [Carter Ace] was, ‘He sounds like a combination of Anderson Paak and Pharell,’ and then [I realized] that he could even be better than both of them put together.” – Magnetic Magazine

July 23, 2021 (NEW YORK, NY) – Posting up 10 million-plus streams and receiving acclaim from GQFlaunt, and more, Cameroonian American singer, songwriter, and rapper Carter Ace releases his brand new single and video “The One and Lonely” today via Let’s Get It Records/Republic Records.

Listen to “The One and Lonely”: HERE
Watch “The One and Lonely”: HERE

Produced by Kieran Watters [Dizzy Fae, Tinashe], the track captures the punchy power of Carter’s idiosyncratic style. He intensely freestyles over otherworldly keys and psychedelic-spiked riffs courtesy of his guitarist Fahem Erfan and keyboardist John Redwood. The momentum just never relents. The surreal accompanying visual pairs seventies-style vibes with high-octane imagery of Carter wilding out in a dress shirt about 12 sizes too big, staring down paparazzi, and running through the desert. It seamlessly bottles the uncontainable energy of “The One and Lonely.

This track is about creating art in the void of loneliness, intensified during the last year with the forced isolation of the pandemic and navigating my growing success. In this void, the pressure to create has turned into a distracting white noise as I recognize that I am truly ‘the One and Lonely.’ As the track morphs static noise into inspirational melodies, I realize I don’t know my purpose, so I might as well enjoy the ride,” says Carter Ace on the track.

Rising up out of the San Fernando Valley, Carter Ace initially incited waves through the culture with “If It Don’t Work” in 2017. A year later, he served up “I Think I’m Normal” with production by Isom Innis of Foster The People. It notably eclipsed 3.4 million Spotify streams as he buzzed to the forefront of the conversation with features in GQ and FlauntJoe Jonas heard his music and immediately reached out, signing him to Let’s Get It Records in conjunction with Republic Records.

Now, Carter formally introduces himself with much more music to come. Get ready!

Metallica: The $24.95 Book by Ben Apatoff To Be Released August 15

Metallica: The $24.95 Book by Ben Apatoff To Be Released August 15

"The metal band everybody knows—but nobody has ever figured out. Ben Apatoff has taken the ultimate deep dive into the dark legend of Metallica, one of rock's weirdest and most fascinating mysteries. In this brilliant book, he tells the definitive story of how a band of nobodies took on the world—and why the world will never be the same."
—Rob Sheffield, author of Dreaming the Beatles

With more than 125 million records sold worldwide, Metallica is the biggest metal band of all time. Four decades into their unparalleled career, Metallica is a massive cultural force who drastically changed the sound of popular music by creating their own rules. Yet for all their popularity, Metallica can seem impenetrable, raising more questions and inspiring more discourse as their mythos grows. They’re rarely given the kind of literary appreciation and analysis usually saved for the biggest rock artists, until now.

METALLICA: THE $24.95 BOOK looks at Metallica's cultural significance, with chapters devoted to each member, each album, touring, fashion, books, film, influences, fandom, history, and more, exploring the band's ideologies along the way. "I wanted it to it to be more than a fact book, and not just something people could just look up on the internet." Says author Ben Apatoff, a writing teacher and music journalist. The result is the most complete Metallica book to date, covering their career through 2021 and the first Metallica book written with access to the band’s box set materials. Compiled from years of exhaustive research and decades of fandom, and including previously unpublished photos, a foreword by Laina Dawes, the author of acclaimed 2013 memoir What are You Doing Here?: A Black Woman's Life and Liberation in Heavy Metal, new transcriptions of video interviews and magazine quotes previously unavailable on the internet, Metallica: The $24.95 Book finally gives Metallica the thorough biography and analysis the band deserves, providing an in-depth look at the band and their music that both die-hard fans and newcomers can enjoy.

About the Author:

Ben Apatoff is a New York writer and educator whose work has appeared in Metal Injection, MetalSucks, and the Morbid Anatomy Museum. He was born the summer Metallica released Kill 'Em All.
