Jack Kays At St Andrews Hall

On one of the first nice nights in recent memory in Detroit, St. Andrew’s Hall was packed with people ready to experience new and raw music. Jack Kays took the stage and reminded everyone why he’s one of the fastest rising stars in music.

A few songs into the set Kays paused for a moment of silence to honor a close friend who had passed away from a drug overdose. The mood in the room shifted from high energy to complete stillness. The crowd stood quietly honoring the loss of Jacks close friend, feeling the weight of Kays' loss with him. It was a moment that showed the true power of music and its ability to connect us. After the silence, Kays thanked the crowd for their support, visibly emotional. This isn’t just a concert for him it was a chance to share his grief, and in doing so, he allowed the crowd to share in the healing process as well. After the moment of silence Kays dove into his song "Plan B" that the crowd really locked in. The song, with its haunting melody and deeply introspective lyrics, is one of Kays’ most vulnerable tracks and you could feel every ounce of that vulnerability as he sang. His voice, both soft and powerful, carried through the venue, and you could see the whole room connect with the raw emotions in the song. As Kays poured his heart into every lyric about heartbreak and self-doubt. The atmosphere shifted, and you could feel the collective catharsis in the air. "Plan B" wasn’t just a hit, it was a piece of Kays’ soul laid bare for everyone to hear.

Amidst the heavier moments, Kays also brought in some lightness with a beautiful dedication his wife before performing "Tether", he shared that the song was for her who was on the road with him. The love and affection Kays has for her were so evident in his performance, and it made the intimate ballad even more touching. As he sang about the anchor of love in his life, the room felt warm and personal, almost like we were witnessing a private moment between the two of them. The dedication wasn’t just for his wife, though it was a moment that resonated with everyone in the room who has felt the grounding power of love, especially in the midst of life’s chaos.
