Heart's SOLD OUT show at Fraze Pavilion
Last year, Heart was slated to play a sold out show in Kettering, OH at The Fraze Pavilion. However, due to unforseen circumstances, Heart was forced to cancel the sold out show and reschedule it for the following year. That year has finally gone and it was now time for the many Dayton, OH region Heart fans to have their opportunity to witness this amazing classic rock band live and in the beautiful outdoor setting of The Fraze Pavilion. The rain would clear up from earlier in the day and would allow for a beautiful evening of live music. Beginning the show was the Tony Red Band with an energetic set that got the crowd dancing and warmed up for the legendary band known as Heart!
Heart is best known as sisters Ann Wilson on lead vocals and Nancy Wilson on vocals and guitar. With more than 35 million records sold, 20 top 40 singles and 7 top 10 albums, Heart is one of the most iconic bands in rock history. Prior to the show an airplane would fly over top of the outdoor pavilion wishing the sisters from Heart a happy birthday as their birthdays are shared close together. The Rock and Roll hall of famer would open the set with "Magic Man", "Heartless", and "What About Love" as the crowd were standing and dancing in their seats and would remain for the entirety of the show except for a few sections up in the lawn area. If you feel that you are unfamiliar with Heart's music, you need to go see a show because once they start playing you will be singing every word of every song that they play. Other hits that were performed during their set included; "Kick It Out", "Bebe Le Strange", "There's The Girl", "Alone" and many others. Also included were a couple covers, one of Robin Trower's "Day Of The Eagle" and The Sonics' "The Witch".
The vocal performance of these two ladies was astounding! Ann's vocals were powerful, yet controlling and never seemed to lose control. Nancy's vocals were always smooth and complimented the band and Ann at just the right moments. Although Ann and Nancy are the spotlight of the group, Heart is backed by some amazing musicians including Ben Smith, Craig Bartock, Dan Rothchild, and Chris Joyner. Without these musicians to supply the amazing rhythm, bass and killer guitar solos, the live experience wouldn't be the same. I had the pleasure to see and hear the show from the front all the way out to the sidewalk/patio areas of the Fraze and it was still the same great quality sound that wasnt overly too loud on the music and just the right amount of vocals and was by far the best engineered sound that I've had the pleasure to hear live.
Heart's set would come to an end as they performed two more of their classic rock hits, "Crazy On You" and "Barracuda". Ann and Nancy would leave the stage but the crowd wasn't ready for them to stop just yet as they would cheer them on and the night would continue on with an encore performance of Led Zeppelin cover songs including;
"Immigrant Song", "No Quarter", and "Misty Mountain Hop". With so many hit songs and such great quality live sound, it's no wonder that this show sold out last year and those fans would hang onto those tickets for an entire year to experience HEART Live!!
