Flogging Molly and Gogol Bordello at Meadow Brook Music Festival

Flogging Molly kicked off their 12 date summer tour last week in Detroit along with Gogol Bordello.

Gypsy punk band Gogol Bordello started off the night with a crazy set led by from man Eugene Hütz. The Lower Manhattan band got the crowd on their feet and dancing with the 14 song set list, it included"We Rise Again"  "Start Wearing Purple" and "Ultimate" .  By the end of their set they had the crowd screaming for one more song but they will just have to wait until next time they come to town because it was time for Flogging Molly.

Dave King has a soft spot for Detroit along side from living here part of the year, here is what he says about the city thanks to Billboard

"You're beginning to feel the energy coming back to the city," King tells Billboard.com. "Even just walking the dog around the neighborhood, a lot of the houses that were foreclosed, there's people in them now. Things seem to be picking up. Maybe I'm being too optimistic here, but there's that fighting spirit. That's what I've always connected with the Irish and people that live in Detroit. That's why I like here. It has that same energy...as when I was growing up in Ireland."

As soon as Flogging Molly hit the stage the crowd lost their minds screaming in anticipation. Flogging Molly started off the first night of the tour with a cover of "The Auld Triangle" by Dominic Behan followed by "Another Bag Of Bricks".  The seven piece band gave their all for the oping night of the tour, and what an amazing show they put on. They ended the night with my personal favorite "What's Left Of The Flag" and "If I Ever Leave This World Alive" It was a amazing ending to a even better night.
