Kara Connolly Releases Enchanting Video for Alt-Pop Single “Something More”

After dropping her debut independent album in 2019, LA-based singer-songwriter Kara Connolly is back with “Something More” and something different—a dreamy, 90s flared alt-pop anthem. The official video for the track is streaming on SPIN Magazine today as their exclusive "Video of the Day".

Despite being a wholly independent, self-supported artist, singer-songwriter Kara Connolly ended 2019 nominated for two Hollywood Music in Media Awards (Best Independent Music Video and Best Message Song/Social Impact), on the first-round GRAMMY® ballot for “Best Pop Vocal” album, and ranked in industry insider Music Connection Magazine’s December issue as one of their Top 4 Unsigned Artists/New Music Critiques of the year. The publication wrote, “...when the artist’s voice is this good and her material is both eloquent and commercial, the results are unquestionably label-ready.” Kara had just released her very first record Life in Rear View to sold-out shows at LA hotspots such as The Hotel Cafe and Interscope’s The Peppermint Club, as well as rave reviews in tastemaker publications praising her “infectious,” “unabashedly addictive” and “honest” writing, “powerful” storytelling sensibilities, “gorgeous tone and vibrato,” “relatable” and “invitingly open-hearted” presence, creative visuals, and “empowering” perspective. Now, Kara is back with “Something More” and something different. Our first introduction into the latest world Kara has created, "Something More" is a 90s flared alt-pop anthem full of lush instrumentation, a soaring, feel-good chorus, introspective, yet imaginative lyrics, beautiful, layered vocals, and dreamy swells of effects-laden electric guitar, bringing us hope—for a better world and a brand new Kara Connolly record on the horizon.

Our first introduction into the latest world Kara has created, "Something More," is full of lush instrumentation, a soaring, feel-good chorus, introspective, yet imaginative lyrics, beautiful, layered vocals, and dreamy swells of effects-laden electric guitar. Its accompanying music video drops us (and Kara) into an enchanting, vibrant, magical forest, complete with mystical visual effects.

Kara says, "I’m so excited to share my new music video for my song “Something More.” This video was a labor of love in the middle of a pandemic. The idea initially stemmed from the fact that we were all stuck inside for so long. Thinking on what was possible during this crazy time we decided that a solo video in an expansive forest was the way to go, not only in keeping with safety measures but also reflecting on the concept of the song itself. The lyrics are pretty introspective and imaginative so I wanted to take you into another world beyond these four walls, which could either be very literal as in the walls of your apartment or those of your own mind and thought patterns. Whether it’s interpreted as a dream, a psychedelic “trip,” or some magical transportation to another dimension, I wanted to explore the classic concept that the “Something More” I’ve been searching for was within me all along. I just had to wake up and remember my magic. I think that applies to all of us. I hope this video inspires you to remember your own magic and power. It’s easy to forget or overlook, but I promise you, it’s there.”
